WACA-Togo supports Its partner radios to strengthen community-based communication
As part of efforts to enhance community awareness on environmental issues along the Togolese coastline, the WACA-Togo project has taken a new step by equipping 11 partner local radio stations with digital tablets. This gesture is part of a broader initiative to actively support the production of high-quality multimedia content — illustrated reports, videos, audio, and photos — which are essential in today’s digital era.
“At a time when digital tools are central, it is vital to equip the media that support us in educating and raising awareness among communities,” said the project’s National Coordinator, Dr. Adou Rahim Alimi Assimiou, during the official equipment handover ceremony. He took the opportunity to encourage the radio stations to step up their efforts and produce more engaging content that reflects the realities on the ground.
Each representative from the 11 partner media outlets received a tablet, not only as a token of recognition but also as a practical tool to strengthen their journalistic capabilities. The initiative aims to improve the quality of media productions by facilitating the collection of visual and audio information in the field.
“The project is not yet over. But even when it ends, awareness efforts must continue to consolidate the gains and promote the financial empowerment of communities, notably through income-generating activities (IGAs) developed within the sub-projects,” Dr. Alimi emphasized.
Present at the ceremony, Mr. TETEH Elie, Director of RTDS in Aného, welcomed the initiative enthusiastically and promised to make good use of the tablet he received. “Our communities need accurate and clear information about the project, and we are here to deliver that,” he added with conviction.
The WACA-Togo project plans to continue this technical and material support to ensure the sustainability of communication efforts after the project's conclusion. Discussions are also underway on developing a mechanism to assess the impact of the provided equipment and to explore ways to maintain radio engagement beyond the initial funding phase.
