Dans le cadre de son appui au programme WACA, l’UICN met en évidence les pressions croissantes qui menacent les plages de sable et dunes côtières en Afrique de l’Ouest. L’érosion, l’élévation du niveau de la mer, les infrastructures côtières et l’extraction de sable contribuent à la dégradation de ces écosystèmes essentiels pour la biodiversité, notamment pour les sites de nidification des tortues et des oiseaux.

Sandy beaches and coastal dunes

Erosion, sea-level rise, coastal infrastructure, and sand mining are driving the degradation of these ecosystems, which are critical nesting sites for turtles and bird species.
