In Godjémé, WACA’s multifunctional platforms are transforming community life

The WACA project has installed multifunctional platforms (PTFM) in several localities of Togo—including Godjémé (Yoto), Afito (Yoto), Adamé (Lacs), and Nyamessiva (Avé)—to strengthen livelihoods, improve daily life, and support household economic empowerment.

Powered by solar energy, the platforms provide maize mills, rice and cassava shellers, mobile phone charging stations, machete and knife sharpeners, public lighting, and household electrification—serving as a true driver of local development.

To ensure sustainability of these investments, WACA signed a one-year agreement on December 10, 2024, with the National Agency for Grassroots Development Support (ANADEB). The partnership focuses on strengthening community management committees to guarantee long-term operation. Early results show strong progress: training sessions have led to business strategies, microfinance accounts, and deposit and withdrawal procedures under community supervision.

Impact is already tangible. In Godjémé, platform president Mrs. GOLI Abla reports that sound management has enabled savings of 400,000 CFA francs, part of which was reinvested in chairs for meetings and community programs broadcast on Radio du Littoral.

The economic benefits are especially meaningful for women. Four of them rotate operating the mills daily, receiving 20% of the daily revenue. “In our village, earning 800 CFA francs in a day, as I did on August 8, means a lot,” said Mrs. EDAH Sépénou, one of the millers.

For the Association for the Conservation and Promotion of the Sacred Forest Godjé-Godjin (ACPC), which supports the project, the platforms represent more than a service. They foster collective, transparent, and sustainable resource management while strengthening social cohesion.
