The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) is the joint development finance institution of the five Nordic countries i.e. Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. NDF finances projects usually in cooperation with bilateral, multilateral and other development institutions. The operations mirror the Nordic countries’ priorities in the areas of climate change and development. NDF flexibly uses grants, loans, equity and any combination of these as financing instruments

The Global Environment Facility was established on the eve of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit to help tackle our planet’s most pressing environmental problems. Since then, the GEF has provided over $18.1 billion in grants and mobilized an additional $94.2 billion in co-financing for more than 4500 projects in 170 countries. Today, the GEF is an international partnership of 183 countries, international institutions, civil society organizations and the private sector that addresses global environmental issues

Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES) is a World Bank-led global partnership that aims to promote sustainable development by ensuring that natural resources are mainstreamed in development planning and national economic accounts. This global partnership brings together a broad coalition of UN agencies, governments, international institutes, nongovernmental organizations and academics to implement Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) where there are internationally agreed standards, and develop approaches for other ecosystem service accounts. By working with central banks and ministries of planning and finance across the world to integrate natural resources into development planning through NCA, we hope to enable more informed decision making that can ensure genuine green growth and long-term advances in wealth and human well-being

Ghana sits on the Atlantic Ocean and borders Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. Its population is about 29.6 million (2018). In the past two decades, it has taken major strides towards democracy under a multi-party system, with its independent judiciary winning public trust. Ghana consistently ranks in the top three African countries for freedom of speech and press.

Guinea-Bissau, one of the world’s poorest and most fragile countries, has a population of about 1.9 million. Guinea-Bissau borders Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south, and it’s Atlantic Ocean coast is composed of the Bijagós archipelago, with more than 100 islands. Despite its size, Guinea-Bissau is host to a large variety of ethnic groups, languages, and religions.

Stretching 450 km along the Gambia river, the country is surrounded by Senegal, except for a 60-km Atlantic Ocean front. The country is one of the smallest in Africa, covering about 10.7 thousand square kilometers and has a population of 2.5 million. With 176 people per square kilometer, it is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa. Most of the population (57%) is concentrated around urban and peri-urban centers.

Côte d’Ivoire has enjoyed vibrant, robust, and stable economic growth since 2012, but experienced a slowdown in 2020 owing to the COVID-19 crisis.

Benin’s economy is heavily reliant on the informal re-export and transit trade with Nigeria (estimated at approximately 20% of GDP), and on agriculture, especially cotton, which is the country’s leading export product.

Mauritania is essentially a desert country, with vast expanses of pastoral land and only 0.5% of arable land.

The West African Monetary and Economic Union (also known under the French acronym, UEMOA) was established with the Treaty signed in Dakar on 10 January, 1994 by the Heads of State and Government of seven West African countries using the CFA Franc in common. The Member States are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

The Treaty came into force on 1st August 1994, after ratification by the Member States. On 2nd May 1997, Guinea Bissau became the 8th Member State of the Union. UEMOA is represented by a logo that symbolizes growth, union, solidarity and complementarity between the Coastal and Sahel States.

As such, CSE's interventions cover various fields such as support for land use planning and urban management, scientific and technical support for sustainable land management, support for decentralized natural resource management, environmental and social assessments, monitoring of poverty alleviation efforts, support for the fight against climate change

ACECoR will give impetus for University of Cape Coast (UCC) to embrace a more multidisciplinary approach to address the issues of coastal resources degradation by strengthening the resilience of coastal areas particularly in Western and Central Africa both biologically and economically. Attention will be given to enhancing research and training of young scientists and the next generation of African professionals to be supported through scholarships, exposure to industry experiences based on internships and conference participation. The Project will introduce institutional Post Doc opportunities and will attract Post Doc’s from within the region especially from Francophone Countries with priority on female candidates.

Cerema ( Center for Studies and Expertise on Risks, Environment, Mobility and Development) is a public institution dedicated to supporting public policies, placed under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition and the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion and Relations with Local Authorities. Cerema also offers public expertise for ecological transition and territorial cohesion

The French National Research Institute for Development (IRD) is an internationally recognised multidisciplinary organisation working primarily in partnership with Mediterranean and intertropical countries.The IRD is a French public establishment operating under the joint authority of the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Via its network and presence in fifty or so countries, it takes an original approach to research, expertise, training, and knowledge-sharing to the benefit of countries and regions that make science and innovation key drivers in their development

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is meant to foster interstate economic and political cooperation. History is on its side in this regard. Dating back to pre-colonial times, West Africans have been among the world’s most mobile populations although much of the migration had been intra-regional. About 7.5 million West African migrants (3 percent of the regional population) are living in ECOWAS countries other than their own. The 1.2 million other migrants are dispersed mainly in North America and Europe. Estimated at about 149 million in 2013, women constitute over 50 percent of the region’s population. The cross-border migration of women as traders and business persons places them as potential champions for promoting integration.

The West Africa Biodiversity and Climate Change (WA BiCC) program is a five-year program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that aims to improve conservation and climate-resilient, low-emissions growth across West Africa. Although regional in scope and design, WA BiCC focuses on targeted geographical areas within the region to improve governance and policy over critical natural and human systems. By working through the core regional partners, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mano River Union (MRU) and the Abidjan Convention, and with targeted national and sub-national institutions, WA BiCC increases the capacity of institutions at all levels to address the three core WA BiCC components. These are combatting wildlife trafficking, increasing coastal resilience to climate change and reducing deforestation, forest degradation, and biodiversity loss.
