Government publishes First Draft of Gambia’s Groundbreaking national land policy

The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government, and Religious Affairs has released the first draft of the much-anticipated Gambia’s first-ever National Land Policy, funded by the WACA Project. The policy was published on the Ministry’s website in March for public comments.

“Following extensive consultations with local and international stakeholders, we are pleased to share the first draft of the National Land Policy,” said Abdou Touray, Lead Coordinator of the Policy. “Now, we invite every Gambian to take time to review the draft and share their thoughts with us. We’ll also return to the communities to present the draft for their review and validation.”

The WACA Project funds the development of the National Land Policy as part of its efforts to strengthen national policies and institutional frameworks. Other policies and legislation developed or in development include Gambia’s first Climate Change Act, the National Disaster Risk Management Policy, the National Resettlement Policy, and various environmental regulations.
