Infrastructure delivered, communities empowered

From the Saloum Delta to the shores of the Langue de Barbarie National Park, the WACA ResIP Senegal Project is delivering tangible results for coastal communities. The first quarter of 2026 marked the final handover of key infrastructure to both implementing partners and local communities.

In Gorée, the guard posts of the Marine Protected Area have been officially handed over and are now in service, strengthening surveillance and management capacity within a fragile and ecologically valuable marine ecosystem. In the municipality of Gandiole, the Mboumbaye processing unit has also been completed and handed over. Designed for women in the shellfish value chain, the facility allows them to process and package their products under improved hygiene conditions, extend shelf life and access more profitable markets — a significant shift from a context where most production was sold locally with little to no processing.

On the environmental front, the physico-chemical assessment of mangrove restoration sites within the Langue de Barbarie National Park has been completed, and local stakeholders have been trained in environmental monitoring techniques. An approach that goes beyond planting mangroves — building the knowledge and skills needed to ensure restoration efforts last.
