Major Project Milestone: WACA launches feasibility studies and design of the Kotu stream
The WACA Project has launched feasibility studies and detailed engineering design for the Kotu Stream, marking a major milestone in the project’s efforts to restore and reprofile the Stream. Following an extensive and rigorous recruitment process, a joint venture of three firms – including one local – led by HydroNova was selected in February 2025 to conduct the studies within 12 months.
“The launch of the feasibility studies for the Kotu Stream is an exciting moment for all of us at WACA,” said Dr. Muhammed Lamin Sanyang, Project Coordinator. “The feasibility studies will provide scientific evidence to understand better the most effective approach to restoring the Kotu Stream – to prevent flooding, improve accessibility and livability, and make the Stream more attractive.”
Over the next 12 months, the firms will deploy new technology and discuss with stakeholders – including community members, local authorities, government technicians, and other experts – to gather data, insights, and diverse perspectives on the Kotu Stream. These engagements will culminate in a detailed engineering design for the restoration and reprofiling of the Stream.
