Ms. Koffi, an entrepreneur thanks to the WACA project
In Groguidia, in the municipality of Grand-Lahou, Ms. Koffi now embodies one of the transformations made possible by the WACA project. As a beneficiary of Income-Generating Activities (IGAs), she has been able to launch her own attiéké production and sales business, sustainably improving her family’s living conditions.
For many years, Ms. Koffi assisted women in the village in producing attiéké, an activity that barely provided enough income to meet her household’s needs. Like many families in the area, hers was made vulnerable by declining fishery resources due to changes in the river mouth and increased flood risks, which affect the livelihoods of coastal communities.
With support from the WACA project, Ms. Koffi received financial assistance and equipment to develop her own business. This support enabled her to purchase cassava in sufficient quantities and to structure her attiéké production activity. She also received training in basic management and marketing, allowing her to better organize her business and manage her income.
Today, her business generates regular income, enabling her to meet her family’s needs and ensure the schooling of her five children.
An activity that benefits the entire community
The growth of her business has also had an impact beyond her household. Ms. Koffi now employs several young women from the village to assist with the production and sale of attiéké, thereby creating local economic opportunities.
Her journey has become a source of inspiration for many members of the community, demonstrating that with appropriate support and training, it is possible to develop sustainable economic activities.
Support for IGAs is part of the initiatives implemented by the WACA project to strengthen the economic resilience of coastal communities. Through these actions, the project contributes to women’s empowerment and the development of income-generating activities for more than 700 beneficiaries in the area, while supporting communities facing the impacts of climate change.
