WACA Convenes First National Assembly Forum to Discuss Project Objectives and Activities

The WACA Project convened a joint forum of the National Assembly Select Committee on Environment, Sustainable Development and NGO Affairs, and the Select Committee on Monitoring the Implementation of Government Projects. The meeting, held on February 25, 2025, was intended to brief the committees on the WACA Project’s objectives, initiatives, challenges, and expected impact.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Ebrima Jawara, described the role of National Assembly members, especially the two committees, as “pivotal.”

“Your oversight, advocacy, and legislative functions are critical in ensuring that policies supporting environmental resilience and disaster risk management are well-framed, adequately funded, and effectively implemented,” he said.

Hon. Madi K. Ceesay, a member of the Select Committee on the Environment, recalled that the Stream was once vibrant and rich in ecosystems during the 1970s and 1980s. He emphasized that restoring the Stream holds great potential to revive local businesses and improve the lives and livelihoods of communities.

The forum followed one-on-one meetings between the Project and National Assembly Members representing constituencies in the Project Intervention Area.
