Between March and April 2026, the WACA project in Guinea-Bissau signed five cooperation agreements with community and national radio stations to strengthen public information and awareness on environmental and social issues across its intervention areas.

Four community radio stations — Kampuni, Forreá, Titidjené and Rádio Comunitária Educativa Voz de Tombali — will provide locally tailored information to communities in the protected areas of Cacheu, Cantanhez and Cufada, as well as in selected areas of the Bijagós Archipelago Biosphere Reserve. The partnership with Radio Sol Mansi, which has nationwide coverage, will extend the project's messages to a broader audience.

Through these partnerships, WACA aims to make radio an effective bridge between the project and local communities. Programmes will raise awareness of biodiversity conservation and sustainable coastal management, improve understanding of environmental and social safeguard instruments, and promote the use of the project's toll-free hotline for submitting and following up on grievances.

Content will be broadcast during peak listening periods — morning, afternoon and evening — to reach communities when audiences are highest. Radio technicians will also receive training on biodiversity conservation and coastal management issues to strengthen the quality and relevance of the programmes produced.

By combining community radio stations deeply rooted in their local areas with a nationwide broadcaster, the WACA project is strengthening community participation and access to information — two essential drivers of more inclusive and sustainable management of natural resources and coastal areas in Guinea-Bissau.
