Le Togo est un pays d'Afrique de l'Ouest à faible revenu, bordé par le Ghana, le Burkina Faso et le Bénin. Bien que le taux de pauvreté du Togo ait baissé de 61,7 % en 2006 à 53,5 % en 2017, la pauvreté et les inégalités restent extrêmement élevées, notamment dans les zones rurales où 69 % des ménages vivaient sous le seuil de pauvreté en 2015. Le pays est divisé en cinq régions administratives et gère un système de république présidentielle unitaire avec un parlement.
