Le Bénin est un pays d'Afrique occidentale à revenu moyen inférieur, bordé par le Nigeria, le Togo, le Niger et le Burkina Faso. Bien que le taux de pauvreté du Togo ait baissé de 61,7 % en 2006 à 53,5 % en 2017, la pauvreté et les inégalités restent extrêmement élevées, notamment dans les zones rurales où 69 % des ménages vivaient sous le seuil de pauvreté en 2015. Le pays est divisé en cinq régions administratives et gère un système de république présidentielle unitaire avec un parlement.

L'économie de la Gambie dépend de l'agriculture et du tourisme, qui représentent normalement environ 33 % et 20 % du PIB, respectivement. Sur le plan administratif, la Gambie est divisée en cinq régions, une municipalité et une ville (Banjul) et fonctionne selon un système de république présidentielle avec un parlement.
